Bare Essentials
This list is to serve as a minimum recommended equipment guide for a typical overland adventure. Camping equipment is not included. No consideration has been made for special vehicle requirements or weather conditions.
PERSONAL
- Water (One gallon of water per day, per person plus reserve - weather will dictate)
- Solar protection (Hat, sunglasses and sunscreen)
- Appropriate travel clothing (Breathable and weighted to the conditions)
- Windproof and waterproof jacket (Regardless of conditions)
- Sleeping bag (One per occupant, appropriate to the conditions)
- Change of clothes
- Change of socks and shoes
- Gloves (One pair per occupant)
- Hiking or trail shoes
- Food (3,000 calories per day, per person, plus reserve)
- Identification and copy of vehicle registration
- Cash
- Contact list
- Signal mirror
- Navigation resources (Map and compass minimum; GPS and local guidebooks recommended)
- Flashlight
- Whistle
- First aid kit
VEHICLE
- Fire extinguisher
- Front and rear recovery points
- Shovel
- Jumper cables
- Drivetrain fluids
- Recovery strap
- Jack
- Tarp
- Tool kit appropriate to vehicle
- Vehicle spares appropriate to vehicle
- Full-size spare tire
- Light truck or better tires
- Spare key, hidden outside vehicle
